DevLog 2: Say hi to Gerald!

Hello and welcome to this week's devlog for Ascension, we are RedCis Team and today we will  give you news about the development of the game. This week, we have been focused on creating new  basic menus to make the game playable.

One of the new menus we have been working on is the main menu. This screen we added let the player start the game from the start or exit the game. Also, when the save game system is ready, there will be a "Continue" button . This will allow players to resume their progress after leaving a long gaming session.

Similar to the above, there is also a pause menu, in which you can continue the game, or return to the main screen. Pretty basic, but essential. Obviously both screens will be embellished according to the aesthetics of the game later.

We have also been working on refining the game's lore. We want to make sure that the story behind Ascension is compelling and engaging for players. We have been adding new details to the game's backstory and creating new characters to inhabit the world. Today, let me tell you about Gerald...

Gerald is a young man with a strong and intimidating appearance, wearing a large armor worn down by war, and a red cape that he carries for all the blood he has shed in his life. He has a serious and tired expression on his worn face. He carries a small leather bag in which he keeps his few possessions, and an old, rusted sword that has fought in over a thousand battles.

Gerald swings his sword against enemies, although he could also use a shield to protect himself from projectiles or use scrolls to heal or gain damage in battle. The sound effects for Gerald are are kinda medieval-ish. For example, when he swings his sword, a metallic sound would be heard, or when he uses a scroll, the sound of an old piece of paper being used would be heard.

Gerald has an ability called "Knight's Charge" that allows him to charge forward with his sword and damage enemies, as well as another ability called "Protection Spell" that temporarily gives him a magical armor that can absorb one hit of damage.

The items collected by Gerald have medieval names and effects. For example, he could find a "Fortitude Scroll" that temporarily increases his maximum health, a "Teleport Stone" that allows him to teleport to a nearby location, and he could even find more swords, such as "Excalibur," one of the best swords in the game with its own unique effect of firing light projectiles instead of attacking in melee.

As always, we are committed to creating the best game possible and we are constantly seeking feedback to help us improve. We are excited about the progress we have made this week and we look forward to sharing more updates with you in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more exciting developments!
